Gallery: Unusual Media (I)
benszeto:
Turning the mundane into something magical, and the abandoned artful.
1. The discarded tin becomes a humble, hidden abode for paper-cut dioramas by Jim Doran. Conceptually interesting, though I would have expected something surprisingly subversive given the you-don’t-know-what’s-under-the-lid possibilities.
2. Dust and debris in derelict buildings painstakingly stacked and crafted...

BENTO BOX: Covet: Emotional Baggage →
benszeto:
There is something undeniably evocative about old-school luggage. It means different things to different people. For me, it harkens back to a gilded age when travel was a languid pursuit personified by couchettes and steamers; it was a time when a trans-atlantic flight was filled with romance and…

A Link to 'Lucy Chadwick: A Selby Film for Zara' →
This is My Dream, and this is why I am working towards my Sotheby’s plan. but on a separate note, I like how Zara is starting to market itself as a lifestyle, and not fast fashion.
I haven’t got much time to dawdle about here, but I am bookmarking this, for a possible write up on fashion films/campaigns and its changing faces.

The Architect Has No Clothes: Why does modern... →
archistudent:
This is a really long article about contemporary architecture and the strange disconnect between how the architect and the layperson sees things.
I’ve extracted some short bits here (emphases mine), but if you have the time, do read the entire article because it provides some interesting insight. Keep in mind that most people don’t see the magnificent works we are exposed to in...

London Design Festival: Outline Editions by Noma...
Decided to hop over to soho today to check out Noma Bar’s new installation ‘Cut It Out’, which was held in conjunction with London Design Festival.
Cut It Out features a specially-commissioned embossing device/sculpture in the shape of a giant dog that will allow visitors to feed paper, rubber and other materials into its mouth to produce their own cut-out Noma Bar images.

London Design Festival: Kyuhyung Cho @ HEMMA
We always hear that every work of art has a story behind it. It is either influenced by the artist’s life experiences, or it is trying to tell a story through the medium of the art form. However, Kyuhyung Cho’s work (displayed at ‘Hemma: Swedish Design goes to London’ for the London Design Festival) is literally a story in itself. It is story-telling at a whole new level....

London Design Festival: Lego Greenhouse
The Lego Greenhouse by Sebastian Bergne is located at the North Piazza of Covent Garden, just outside the Royal Opera House.
The fully functional greenhouse is built out of lego bricks which contains real plants growing within those walls.
Although it was smaller and simpler than I expected it to be, it was still pleasant to see the plants, sheltered and protected, in the middle of the piazza,...

London Design Festival: Preview
The London Design Festival starts officially on the 17th Sept and runs till 25th Sept. But given that it is the day before the festival, most exhibitions are up and running, with a few more upcoming events that will launch in the duration of the festival.
With the London Design Festival setting its camp at the V&A (through Exhibition Road entrance), much of the festival is focused in the...

Graphic Bar @ 4 Golden Square, London
Since I have decided that I am going to leave London soon and head back home before deciding where to head to for my next big adventure (and also to earn some funds), I figured it is time to start ticking things off my to-do list.
Headed to Graphic Bar with some friends last night to grab a couple of drinks. Usually, I would go to Frevd’s, but that underground bar is a tad too noisy for a...

I am supposed to be updating a website with all the listings of the events, but while checking out some of the exhibitions on my own, I discovered this. I love stop motion animation. I should take some time to learn to create things like this.

Arang Korean Restaurant
I had a really bad case of craving last week, for Korean Ginseng Chicken (Samgyetang). Being the greedy whiner that I am, my friend definitely knew about it, and whether it was by coincidence or not, she suggested that we visit either Arang or Asadal.
It as a very simple choice, really. Especially since only Arang seem to to offer the ginseng chicken soup dish.
The eternal problem with going...
