The Beauty of a Second

When we are pressed for time, we say ‘every second counts’; but when we are idle, we tend to let every second slip away.

While a single second might seem insignificant in the greater scheme of things, the One-Second Film Festival proves that it can be a poignant moment, especially on video.  The competition was started by Mont Blanc to celebrate the invention of the chronograph in 190 years ago and entrants are asked to submit their most beautiful second captured on video, to celebrate the “fragile beauty of this short-lived unit of time”.

I like the idea that while photographs capture a particular moment, a second-long video captures the before and after of that shot. But while I’m here trying to figure out what constitutes to a second, I shall be content with watching the compilation of all the beautiful videos and the wonderful publicity film for the festival.
